It is important that water tanks are inspected annually and cleaned if necessary. Sludge, sediment, and bio-films (slime) accumulate within water tanks and pipework and provide ideal nutrient sources for bacteria to thrive. Deep cleaning and chlorination should always be factored into routine maintenance.
Private Water Supply Tanks
Private water tanks often become neglected, consequently imposing a higher demand on the UV filtration systems resulting in the need for more frequent component changes.
For private water supplies associated with holiday parks, and rented accommodation including holiday cottages, current guidance (HSG274 - Part 2) stipulates that you must inspect them annually and clean them if necessary.
For private owners, it is also good practice to inspect private supply tanks annually and clean them if necessary.
